The visitor center “Caričin grad” presents the archaeological site “Caričin grad”, the nature park “Radan planina” as well as the tourist attractions, cultural and historical heritage of the municipality of Lebane. It is located at the foot of the archaeological site itself. In presentation room there is a guide which interprets the facts about Caricin grad- a byzantine archbishopric. There are the installation of replicas of artifacts excavated within the site, informational boards, electronic screens and a virtual reality headset with a variety of visual illustration.
Meetings and workshops are held in a conference hall of 50 seats by archaeologists, conservators, law professionals, economists, etc. These two halls are joint by the wide outdoor amphitheater with 360 seats where summer events like theater take place. From there, pedestrian corridors enter the parking lot and a bio-garden.
A Roman villa alike, “Theodora” building, named after the Byzantine empress and wife of Emperor Justinian I offers services of restaurant and accommodation. A visitor can enjoy sitting at the terrace during hot summer days or indoor trying out delicious local gastronomic specialties, like sprza, ajvar, fresh mixed salads or well known Leskovac barbeque. Rooms of the upper floor are double or triple bedded of total 18 beds.
“Caričin grad- Justiniana prima” archaeological site have always been a gathering spot of scientists and professionals in the field of history of Byzantium, art, architecture etc. Educational visits, classes in nature, and events on the topic of Byzantium and Justinian’s reign are held here all year long.
