Bio-garden

The bio-garden is an innovative system that generates electricity out of the soil by technology that does not use sunlight, but the power of natural decomposition. The soil is maintained in a natural way: with compost, mulching, humus and green manure with plants. The concept encоurages the economical use of water through a drip system in the early morning hours or in the evening, in order to reduce evaporation, while the mulch retains moisture. Electrodes placed in the ground collect electrons, which then travel through an external circuit to produce electricity.

The bio-garden of the “Caricin grad” Visitor Center has installed 180 bio-panels that produce 100% natural energy to power up thirty outdoor lighting points, thus save energy, water and reduce carbon dioxide emission. The garden is designed like an educational and demonstration space, where plants are grown in a completely natural way, with no genetically modified seeds, chemicals, pesticides or artificial fertilizers. It contains several plant species of the local landscape, which support each other. It is one of a kind living outdoor cabinet, where pupils, students and all visitors can learn the bio-cultivation technique, the biodiversity preserving importance and sustainable development significance.
